The following list is my top 10 rock music albums of all time.

10. My Bloody Valentine — Loveless

Prime example of how the studio and technology can create new sound. Dreamy textures of noise and distortion with beautiful melodies created dualistic music: ethereal and suffering.

9.- Tim Buckley — Lorca

A stream of consciousness taken to its most intense expression using elements of folk, jazz and psychedelic rock. Surrealistic and psychological, tense and virtuous vocals with rich instrumentation of blues and jazz.

8.- Neu! — Neu!

The most interesting exposition of rhythm in rock music history. Their obsessive and repetitive patterns are akin to the ethos of minimalism and impressionism, while their neurotic instrumentation precedes industrial rock and heavy metal.

7.- Residents — Not Available

Known for their collage music, this is their most serious work where they can be considered composers more than experimenters. Alien yet beautiful melodies are backed by primitive rhythms and introspective world-music.

6.- Red Krayola — The Parable of Arable Land

Best psychedelic album of all time. Avante-garde rock that explores all posible sounds of the instruments.

5.- The Velvet Underground and Nico — The Velvet Underground & Nico

The most important rock album ever made, it set a before and after in the scene. The start and epitome of indie and punk.

4.- Robert Wyatt — Rock Bottom

A profound introspection into the human condition. Dense and metaphysical yet deeply personal, one of the most beautiful, intimate and emotional works of progressive rock.

3.- Popol Vuh — Hosianna Mantra

Juxtaposition of sacred western and eastern music using instruments and techniques from both combined with free jazz improvisation. The lack of tonality and time signature reveals the inspiration & theme: God’s eternal love.

2.- Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band — Trout Mask Replica

If Dali and Picasso were to make a rock music album, this would be it. A mock and a celebration of blues & rock. Cacophonous and polyrhythmic w most acid & catchiest guitar riffs of all time.

1.- Faust — Faust

Building up from the caos and tragedy of Germany’s wars, a rebellion against American culture by deconstructing rock using elements of expressionism, Dadaism and cabaret.
